The journey of the Federation of Myanmar Engineering Societies through the decades.
1916 – 1963: Origins and Interruption
The first Association of Engineers in Burma was constituted in 1927, evolving from the Burma Engineering Congress inaugurated in 1916. Initially, membership was confined to Public Works department engineers, but later opened to all engineers in Myanmar.
Following the interruption of the Second World War (1939-1945), activities renewed in 1948 with independence. However, in 1963, all associations were abolished under the Government Act, leading to a 32-year hiatus.
1995: The Diamond Jubilee Revival
During the Diamond Jubilee of Yangon University in 1995, a gathering of Yangon Institute of Technology (Y.I.T) graduates and students sparked the formation of the Fed.MES Committee.
Official permission was granted on 5th December 1995. By 23rd December 1995, Fed.MES was officially formed in the Assembly Hall of Y.I.T with the unanimous approval of approximately 800 engineers and architects.
